Zenbook 17 Fold OLED: Notebook With A Foldable Screen

Announced in January and officially launched in August, the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is ASUS’ main bet to stand out in the notebook market, being one of the first models launched with a folding screen.

Design And Connectivity

It has a simple and “direct” design, which is curious for being a model with good specifications. Generally, notebooks with complete hardware tend to be bulkier, but this one combines the two aspects into one because it has a folding screen. The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED proves compact even in size and weight, measuring 37.85 x 28.76 x 1.29 cm and weighing 1.5 kg.

Another point of its design is that, as it works as a notebook and a tablet, it seeks a little of both. It comes with the Ergo Sense keyboard, which has Bluetooth connectivity, to be used in extended mode. It has a magnetic sensor, which, when approached by the device, is already identified, causing the “bottom screen” to turn off so it can be used as a conventional computer. Already in notebook mode with the screen folded, it uses the bottom as a virtual keyboard.

It has two USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 inputs, one on each side, one of which is close to the P2 connector for headphones and microphone. With the notebook closed, it gives the impression of having 3 USB inputs, but the keyboard input can be detached.

Screen: The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED Big Draw

Being the main highlight, the screen has foldable OLED technology, with a resolution of 2560×1920, 17.3 inches, 4.3 aspect ratio. Another relevant point about the screen of the Zenbook 17 Fold is that it has a response time of 0.2ms, with a 60 Hz refresh rate and 500 nits peak brightness in HDR mode; that is, it is a screen that reproduces an image of the clean shape and with excellent quality, having enough lighting to maintain the quality at the same time that it won’t tire the eyes so much when looking at it for a long time, showing that this model can be an excellent option to use at work.

Its screen, when folded, displays two 12.5-inch displays with a resolution of 1920×1280 and a 3:2 ratio each. The foldable screen allows different ways of using the notebook, in addition to the standard and the one that resembles a desktop. As already mentioned, it also works similarly to a tablet, with both screens forming a single straight shape, and when folded, it is in the so-called “reading mode,” where its format resembles a book or magazine.

Hardware

The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is powered by a 12th-generation Intel Core i7 processor. However, when accessing your system, we see the I7-1250U model, where the letter “U” stands for “Ultra Low Power.” Its base consumption is from 9 to 29W, being a processor focused on energy, making the battery last longer, compromising its performance. In addition to the processor, the notebook has 16GB of RAM, 1TB of internal storage via an SSD, a 75 Wh battery (powered by a 65W USB-C charger) and Intel Iris Axe as an integrated graphics card.

Considering its specifications, it could be a good notebook for the most varied types of use. However, the issue above of the processor needing more performance makes the device’s absolute focus on work and video consumption and not so focused on more complex tasks, such as editing photos and videos or running recent games.
